Voge DS625X: Ownership, Mods, Problems & Adventure Setup

This is the main Almost Enduro resource for my Voge DS625X: what I have learned from owning it, the modifications that have genuinely helped, the problems I have personally experienced, and how the bike is being developed for real-world adventure riding.
I have now covered around 6,000 miles on the DS625X, including everyday road riding, trails, motorway miles and the six-day Land’s End to John O’Groats ride. The aim of this page is not to pretend the bike is perfect, or to turn every change into a must-have modification. It is simply a running record of what has worked, what has not, and what I would do differently.
I will keep this page updated as the mileage grows and new trips expose more strengths and weaknesses.
Voge DS625X ownership in the real world
The reason the DS625X appealed to me in the first place was simple: it offered a lot of middleweight adventure bike for the money. It is comfortable enough for long road days, capable enough for the kind of trail riding I actually do, and affordable enough that I am happy to use it rather than protect it like a showroom bike.
That matters to Almost Enduro. The channel has never been about proving that you need the most expensive motorcycle or equipment to have a proper adventure. The Voge fits that idea well: buy sensibly, learn the bike, improve the weak points you actually find, and spend the rest of the budget riding it.
What has actually gone wrong?
The most significant issue I have personally had is the footrest hanger. I have broken two of the original cast hangers. That does not mean every DS625X will suffer the same failure, and I would be wary of describing it as a universal fault, but on my bike it became a problem worth solving rather than simply replacing the same part again.
The solution has been to have the original part scanned and redesigned for CNC machining in aluminium. The intention is not to create an indestructible component; I would rather a hard impact resulted in something that can deform than transfer every force somewhere more expensive. The first replacement is now fitted and will be tested properly before I draw conclusions.
As more mileage goes onto the bike, genuine faults and fixes will be added here rather than buried inside individual videos.
Weight reduction
One of the more useful experiments has been removing around 7 kg from the bike. The number itself sounds good on paper, but the more important question was whether I could actually feel the difference. Removing unnecessary weight and changing the exhaust did make the bike feel a little easier to manage, particularly when moving it around and when riding more slowly.
I would still put riding time, tyres and suspension setup ahead of chasing tiny weight savings. The useful changes are the ones that improve the bike you actually ride, not simply the figure on a spreadsheet.
Controls and ergonomics
My riding boots exposed another practical issue: the standard gear lever position and shape were not ideal for me. I fitted a longer folding-tip lever originally sold for a Honda Africa Twin, using a nylon spacer to achieve the fit I needed.
The important part is that this is a personal ergonomic modification, not a claim that the original Voge part is defective. With my LEATT boots the revised lever makes shifting noticeably easier, and I still carry the original lever, basic tools and thread lock as a spare when travelling.
Tyres
For the more adventure-focused riding I have been using Mitas Enduro Trail XT+ Dakar tyres. They proved confidence-inspiring off road during LEJOG preparation and have also been much better on the road than their appearance might suggest, including in wet conditions.
I am not a fast rider and tyre choice is very personal, so I treat that as my experience rather than a universal recommendation. For my mix of road miles, trails and upcoming travel, they have so far been a good compromise.
Luggage: fixing the LEJOG lesson
LEJOG showed me that a luggage setup can technically survive a trip and still be the wrong setup. The system I used worked, but it was more improvised than I wanted and became one of the clearest things to improve before Portugal.
I have moved to a Rhinowalk rackless soft-luggage setup with a tail bag, aiming for less weight, fewer hard mounting points and a system that is easier to live with when the route turns rough.
Navigation, power and security
Longer trips have also changed the way I think about accessories. Navigation is only useful if the mounting, power supply and phone connection remain reliable for a full day, while security needs to be realistic enough that I will actually use it every time I stop.
My current setup has included Carpuride navigation, a Monimoto tracker and Hiplok security. These are exactly the sort of products I prefer to judge over time rather than after a quick installation. Where equipment has been supplied or discounted, I identify that clearly in the individual review or article.
The bike has already done a proper trip
In May 2026 the DS625X carried me from Land’s End to John O’Groats over six days, covering roughly 1,014 miles on the planned LEJOG route before the unexpected return journey added considerably more. The ride was in support of Help for Heroes and also had a much more personal reason behind it: retracing a journey I first made with my dad.
That trip told me far more about the motorcycle than a short review ever could. Comfort, luggage, tyres, motorway manners, fatigue, weather protection and all the small irritations only become obvious when you have to live with the bike day after day.
Next test: ACT Portugal
The next major test is ACT Portugal in October 2026. The trip combines the ride through Spain with around five days of off-road riding in Portugal, and I am planning to camp for much of it. That makes it a very different challenge from LEJOG.
The current preparation work—luggage, tyres, bike servicing, controls, security, navigation and filming strategy—is being done with that trip in mind. Anything that fails there will be added back into this ownership record rather than quietly forgotten.

What I would prioritise first
If I bought another DS625X tomorrow, I would not immediately copy every modification on this bike. I would ride it first. After that, my priorities would be contact points and ergonomics, tyres appropriate to the riding I actually intended to do, dependable luggage, then navigation and security. Weight reduction and more specialised changes can come later once there is a real reason for them.
That is really the point of this page: a useful Voge DS625X should be built through riding experience, not through a shopping list.
